Spider veins are stretched or dilated blood vessels that look like a spider web. These red, purple or blue blood vessels commonly appear on the legs and thighs. At Rao Dermatology, we offer the most advanced laser treatments to improve the appearance of spider veins and to restore your natural skin beauty. However, the treatment results vary based on how well you follow our doctor’s instructions. To help speed up recovery after your spider vein treatment, here are some tips you need to follow religiously.
Get Enough Rest
You will be able to resume work and other normal activities right away after your spider vein treatment. However, it’s recommended you get enough rest for the first seven days after treatment to aid the best recovery. You may also be instructed to wear support stockings for about three to six weeks.
Don’t Engage in Strenuous Activities
You should avoid strenuous exercises, lift anything heavy, squatting or taking a bath for at least seven days after your treatment. Engaging in those activities allows blood flow to return to normal.
Talk to Us before Taking Any Prescription Medication
Some prescription medication like blood thinners or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs may cause some problems. Talk to your healthcare provider before taking any of these medications.
Avoid Direct Exposure to Sunlight
Avoid exposure to the sun’s UV rays during the first few weeks following your spider vein treatment when your skin is at its most sensitive. If you are going to be out in the sun, make sure the treatment area is covered.
Wear Stockings or Apply Creams to Treat Hyperpigmentation
Following spider vein treatment, we advise patients experiencing hyperpigmentation to apply skin lightening creams or wear stockings for at least three months.
Elevate Your Legs
Keep your legs elevated to make sure blood in the veins is flowing to the heart smoothly. Raising your legs also takes pressure off of your veins, allowing them to heal faster.
