Anyone who has ever seen spider veins and varicose veins knows that they are not very attractive. Anyone who has ever had these knows that they come with a variety of uncomfortable symptoms. Thankfully, there are different therapies that are available to help individuals say goodbye to varicose veins and spider veins. One such treatment is sclerotherapy.
Sclerotherapy is a medical procedure that involves injecting a special solution into the spider or varicose veins. The solution causes the veins to undergo fibrosis. They will eventually disappear. Blood will be rerouted through healthy veins. During each session, several veins can be injected.
It is common to see spider veins in women who are between the ages of 30 and 50. The most common reasons why spider veins appear in women of this age group have to do with estrogen and pregnancy. The veins are usually a light purple color and have a network pattern that kind of looks like latticework. Even though they are considered to be unattractive, spider veins are harmless. For this reason, when sclerotherapy is used to treat spider veins, it is done as a cosmetic treatment.
For your convenience, this therapy is performed in our doctor’s office. Once the solution is injected into the veins, it will safely destroy the veins, and over time they will disappear. Sclerotherapy can be used for small varicose veins and spider veins. Only a small amount of the solution is needed to induce fibrosis.
After you come in for treatment, we may recommend that you wear compression stockings for at least two weeks after treatment. Most of our patients need two to four treatments to get the best results. If you have only a small amount of spider veins and small varicose veins, you may only need one or two treatments. This will all be discussed in detail during a consultation at our office.
Sclerotherapy can help you to achieve attractive legs and reduce the uncomfortable symptoms that come with varicose veins and spider veins.
